This series will take
a closer look at a valuable global ecosystem: grasslands and prairies. We have invited several experts in prairie research and education to provide presentations and begin discussions on the importance of these ecosystems during January – May of 2013. January’s expert is J.K. “Rooter” BRIT is “doing his part to create sustainable agriculture production in a way that is compatible with the environment and Texas' natural resources” (Texas Section Society for Range Managerment). Rooter is a native Texan that was actually born and raised in the ranching business. He owns the JA Ranch in Bowie, Texas that lies in a transition area of tall grass prairie and the cross timbers. Many of his land management practices are now models for other land owners.
