In August 2010, a group of talented musicians gathered in Peoria, IL, to honor Dan Fogelberg, one of the great singer/songwriters of the 70s and 80s who passed away in 2007. This event, a two-day celebration centered around the dedication of the Dan Fogelberg memorial at Riverfront Park, has since become an annual Peoria tribute event. Three North Texas musicians were there as guests of the Dan Fogelberg Foundation: Rev. Eric Folkerth, Mike Sheehan and Rev. Rusty King—all founding members of the Connections band. Because Dan Fogelberg fans can be found around the globe, the Connections band, with the support of the Allen Symphony Chorus, the Allen Philharmonic Orchestra, and First United Methodist Church of Allen, are bringing a Dan Fogelberg Tribute Concert to Allen, Texas, on Saturday, February 16. This is the fourth Connections Band concert in the Allen area. Most anyone familiar with the Connections Band knows they are a group of United Methodist ministers and friends who have traveled around North Texas for several years, covering 70s hits while raising money for United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) and Imagine No Malaria. To date, the band has raised more than $220,000. This free event is unique in that all the music will pay tribute to Dan Fogelberg's music. Performing with the band will be several Fogelberg tribute artists from around the United States as well as the 60-voice Allen Symphony Chorus and members of Allen Philharmonic Orchestra. While the event is FREE, the band will collect a love offering to benefit UMCOR in their relief work for victims of Hurricane Sandy.
