Leaders Launch Christians In Public Service, Inc. On Friday, November 8, 2013 for the first time in Dallas/Fort Worth, the leaders of Dallas Baptist University, Dallas Theological Seminary, and the Dallas County Community College District will join together to launch a new, independent, organization - Christians in Public Service, Inc which will support, encourage, and equip public servants from a faith-based perspective. The launch luncheon, hosted by Dallas Baptist University President Dr. Gary Cook and DBU Executive Vice President, J. Blair Blackburn, will be on the campus of Dallas Baptist University from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the John G. Mahler Student Center. Dr. Mark Bailey, President of Dallas Theological Seminary will bring the keynote address. Additional program participants are Dr. Wright L. Lassiter, Jr., Chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District and Pastor Vincent Gonzales, North Dallas Family Church. Media personality Chris Howell will emcee. “Christianity continues to take a hickey in the public arena and we have admittedly allowed the culture to redefine us. We have somehow taken a wrong turn and have allowed ourselves to be defined as intolerant, judgmental, belligerent Bible thumpers. That’s not what Christianity is. We want to hold true to our faith by actively serving in more winsome ways. Only then can we be catalysts for a return to civility, mutual respect, and the toning down of the angry discourse that is so prevalent in the public arena today,” said organization President Dorothy Burton. Christians In Public Service, Inc. is a non-partisan, non-profit, member supported organization founded by Burton, a former Duncanville City Councilwoman and Dallas Theological Seminary graduate, along with other Christian public servants. It will provide innovative biblically-based resources, materials, and confidential peer counseling. Christians In Public Service, Inc. is not affiliated with any political party, political action committee (PAC) or political group of any kind. One does not have to be an elected official to join and memberships are available at various levels. Board members are: Ron J. Anderson, M.D., Honorable Bill Blaydes, David A. Dean, Honorable Ron E. Jones, Dr. Larry Mercer, Helen Roberts, and North Richland Hills Mayor Oscar Trevino. Individual tickets to the luncheon are $45 and a table of eight is $360. Tickets may be purchased at www.cipsinc.org by clicking on the Events tab.
