TobyMac's 'Cornerstone' Came as Declaration After Death of His Son

Out of the depths of despair and grief over the loss of his eldest son, TobyMac found the framework and conviction for this song.

"This song was birthed at my firstborn's funeral service. A broken man, I looked my family in the eyes and said, 'We have to rebuild. Our hearts have been shattered into a thousand pieces,'" he told PEOPLE Magazine. "We cannot build on the promises of this world. They will let us down every time. We have to build on the promises of God. We have to build our lives on the solid rock, the cornerstone."

"We won’t build on prescription drugs. We won’t build on alcohol. We won’t build on being a victim. We will build on the rock. We will build on the cornerstone.”

Watch as he talks about how his latest song, "Cornerstone" came about.  Plus, we have the official music video itself.

"Cornerstone" is the sixth single off TobyMac's ninth studio album, Life After Death. It topped the Christian Albums chart upon its release in August 2022 and was later nominated for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album at the Grammys.
